Here’s The Scoop….Is The CIC Town Hall Meeting Really Open To Dialogue?

NOT THE QUITE THE “OPEN FORUM” WE EXPECTED….

The CIC will sponsor their first Old Fashion Town Hall Meeting…Sun. Sept. 21,2008…7 pm… Jarvis Hall…

According to their under construction CIC website….in the works ….(at least until MacMillan gets back in town?)……..

www.lbtscic.com

It promises…

No…. 3 minute time limits…

No….. one-sided public comments…

1/2 hour per commissioner…consisting of a short opening statement and then it’s open to the floor….

OPEN DIALOGUE…..

BUT….

will the public still NOT be “allowed” to address the commissioners by name….per Vice Mayor McIntee’s “rules” that are unfortunately still in effect for commission meetings…………or will that be put by the “way-side” also for this meeting?….

Who will be the moderator?….

Will it be CIC Chair Cristie Furth?……

If so….can Commissioner Dodd be assured that he will not be “tarred and feathered” by her pal MacMillan shouting from the back of the hall?…..

Is she  prepared to properly run a meeting….this time?…..

1/2 hour each ….for each commissioner?…….

Does that mean no questions asked of multiple commissioners?…

No commissioner can agree or disagree with another?….

In this writer’s humble opinion…..

an Old Fashioned Town Hall Meeting ….with OPEN DIALOGUE….means….

A short opening statement given by all of the commissioners….. at the same time….

The audience asks questions of whomever they wish….

The questions can be answered by one or more commissioners……

Providing the opportunity for another commissioner to agree…disagree….to respond with additional information or offer differing points of view……thus the meaning of……OPEN DIALOGUE!….

as promised by the CIC Chair…..on the CIC website….

Was this what the CIC Board decided on?……

Were the commissioners asked or informed of this type of forum?….

more to come….
